Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Wooden Spoon

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice uncooked
  • 2 cups water or chicken broth for cooking rice
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or cheese of choice
  • 1/2 cup milk or heavy cream for creaminess
  • 2 tbsp butter for richness
  • 1/2 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder optional, for extra flavor

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1/2 cup steamed broccoli for extra nutrition
  • 1/4 cup crumbled bacon for extra flavor

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, bring water or chicken broth to a boil. Add the rice, cover, and reduce heat to low. Simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  • In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the milk and garlic powder (if using), then gradually add the shredded cheese, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
  • Once the rice is cooked, pour the cheese sauce over the rice and stir gently until fully combined and creamy.
  • Season with salt to taste, and add any optional add-ins like broccoli or bacon. Stir well to incorporate.
  • Serve immediately while warm and creamy. Enjoy!

Notes

For best results, use freshly shredded cheese instead of pre-shredded cheese to avoid a grainy texture.
If reheating leftovers, add a splash of milk to bring back creaminess.
